Help patients and families in the fight of their lives.
Your gift to the Rex Cancer Center Angel Fund provides financial assistance to patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.
Cancer treatment can last between six and 20 months, forcing patients and families to face a host of financial hardships — unpaid leave from work, transportation to and from treatment, and the costs of medicines for pain and nausea. For some patients, the financial stress even causes them to end their treatment early.
When you give to this fund, you cover many of the unanticipated expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis, helping cancer patients focus on getting healthy.
Your gift provides:
- Transportation to and from treatments
- Pain and nausea medicine
- Nutritional supplements to help patients stay strong and functional
- Compression sleeves and bras for breast cancer survivors
How the Angel Fund works
Patient needs are assessed by medical social workers as part of the care plan. Medicaid eligibility, job loss, and lack of insurance are taken into account. Patients who, at the start, have insurance and stable income may experience a financial decline and need assistance to complete their treatment. Rex social workers are available to assess those challenges.
Social workers also help patients identify additional sources of assistance in addition to the Angel Fund. These may include family, friends and community resources such as food banks, Meals on Wheels, and the Caring Community Foundation. Patients are also directed to appropriate government programs.
If you or someone you love needs the help of the Angel Fund, please contact Kimberly Fradel, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., at 919 784-6863.
