The 29th annual Rex Gala was held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Proceeds from the evening benefited the state-of-the-art Heart & Vascular Hospital, which opened March 4, 2017.
On October 24, 2015, The Rex Gala celebrated its 28th year of supporting the patients of Rex Healthcare.
The Gala honored the longtime support and leadership of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gregory Poole, Jr. All proceeds raised will support Rex Patient Assistance Funds. These funds exist to help mitigate the financial strain that serious illness causes in many families. Donations will provide our most vulnerable patients with groceries, transportation assistance and prescription medication. By addressing these needs, those in the greatest risk, are more likely to stay on track with their treatment.
The black tie event, held at the Raleigh Convention Center, began with a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. A sit-down dinner followed. The event featured world class entertainment, a silent auction and a Dream Vacation Raffle.
Our 2014 Big Top Gala proudly honored longtime friends and Rex supporters Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Winston, co-founders of the Angus Barn, Darryl’s, and Pizza Inn restaurants and Winston Hotels.
The Winstons contribute their time, talent and treasure to numerous civic and education initiatives throughout the Triangle, and for an incredible 50 years, that has included serving Rex Hospital. Flo has been a long-time member and President of the Rex Guild and a past Trustee. Charlie has served as a foundation board member and trusted advisor. Both have been volunteers, philanthropists and friends in many ways.
For the evening’s festivities, carnival games provided fun and friendly competition, and our biggest winner of the evening was the Patient Assistance Fund. Kicked off by a generous gift from the Winston family, the Call for Donations raised more than $50,000. The wildly successful Silent Auction added $30,000 more, bringing the final fundraising tally to $258,000.
Just think of the patients who will benefit from this incredible kindness and generosity.
Thank you, Flo and Charlie, for your leadership, your enthusiasm for philanthropy and the example you have set for those around you. The impact of your generosity will be felt for years and years to come.
Our Mix, Mingle, and Shake Gala drew 600 guests to Raleigh Convention Center November 9 to raise $250,000 for the new Rex Mobile Heart and Vascular Screening Unit. Ms. Cady Thomas and Mrs. Elizabeth Alley co-chaired the event, which honored Mr. and Mrs. W. Trent Ragland Jr. long-time supporters and community philanthropists. Ragland is also a past Rex Trustee.
Guests enjoyed the sounds of The Rat Pack Now and were treated to a updated 1960s-style dinner complete with shrimp cocktail shooters, chicken divan casserole and pineapple upside down cake.
Special thanks go to our top sponsors — North Carolina Heart & Vascular, PSAV, PNC Bank, and Raleigh Radiology — and to BBH Design for their $10,000 gift through our Call for Donations.
Celebrating the Rex Gala’s 25th Anniversary, appropriately titled, “Wild About Rex,” nearly 800 guests came together November 10 to raise a record $343,628. Co-chairs Dr. James Zidar and Dr. Michael Zellinger inspired the crowd by introducing patient John Edens, 86, a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) patient who was able to dance at his granddaughter’s wedding thanks to the innovative surgery performed at Rex.
Entertainment featured fire dancers and African drums. The audience raised $50,000 during the Call for Donations, sending the evening’s total soaring past the $310,000 goal.
To keep Rex’s Heart and Vascular program ahead of the curve, this funding supplies advanced imaging equipment, continued training for our specialists, cardiologists and nurses, and patient assistance.
More than 650 enjoyed our black-tie event chaired by Dr. and Mrs. Stephen V. Chiavetta, which succeeded in bringing in gifts of all sizes, ensuring that Rex supporters make a life-changing impact on patients. Held in late October at Raleigh Convention Center, the Healing Garden-themed evening raised $268,685 to support cancer care at Rex, with the Call for Donations raising an impressive $37,870.
